Mount Seorak is the highest peak of the Taebaek Mountain Range (태백 산맥), located in Gangwon province, eastern South Korea. Mount Seorak is also called Seolsan or Seolbongsan. It is named Seorak because the snow that falls here is durable or the mountains are white like snow.

Mount Seorak is the 3rd highest mountain in South Korea after Mount Halla on Jeju Island and Mount Jiri in South Gyeongsang. Of the 30 peaks, the highest is Daecheongbong (대청봉) (1,708 m). The main part of this area is composed of granite and gneiss which form rocky mountains.

Mount Seorak is a popular tourist attraction all year round, but the peak of visits occurs in the fall, when the leaves are colorful. The beauty of Mount Seorak in autumn is admired as one of the most beautiful autumn scenery in Korea. The red and yellow forest foliage colors the rocks from which the spring streams out. During the rainy season, especially during typhoons, the springs flow swiftly.

Waterfall attractions include Yukdam and Biryeong. Near the entrance is the Cheonbuldong Valley (천불동 계곡) or Valley of a Thousand Buddhas, which is named for its sharp mountain rock form similar to a Buddha statue.
