Korean Traditional Masks Shown For Viewers in Indonesia
Korean Cultural
Center Indonesia (under the leadership of Director Kim Yong Woon) held an
exhibition of Korean traditional masks through the Korean Cultural Center website
Indonesia. The exhibition was held from 29 November to December 25, 2020 as
part of the K-Festival 2020 and its 100th anniversary the arrival of Korean
citizens to Indonesia.
Each country has
its own mask art. If you see a traditional mask from each country can see also
the universality and uniqueness of its culture at the time simultaneously. In
Korea, there are mask dances scattered in various regions. The main content of the
dance is "Rumor and Satire" of the past. Mask dance generally brought
by ordinary people, which contains sadness in their life. The mask dance
contains a load of causal retribution, allusions about the immorality of the
ruling class, and the sorrow of the common people.
The exhibition
with the theme "Rumor and Satire" displays 30 works. Consist of the
Hae-hae mask from the Hwanghae Province area, the Sandaenori mask from the
Seoul area, Gyeonggi Province, Byeolsingut masks based on the Shamanic
"Gut" ritual, then Yaryu and Ogwangdae masks from the Busan area,
South Gyeongsang Province. We hope that this online exhibition will provide an
experience for the Indonesian people to get to know and increase knowledge
about Korean traditional culture. In addition, it shows the joys and sorrows of
society Korea in the past which includes the philosophy of life and aspects of
Korean culture.
