Korea Strengthens Tourism Cooperation with Indonesia through the G20 Conference
Represented
by Deputy Minister Cho Yong-man, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of
Korea (MCST, minister Park Bo-kyun) will meet representatives from six travel
agencies that are members of ASTINDO (Association of Indonesian Aviation Ticket
Selling Companies) during the Ministerial Meeting G20 Tourism (26-28 October,
Bali).
Tourism
cooperation between Korea and Indonesia has been closely intertwined for a long
time and has great potential to continue to grow. Indonesian people's interest
in Korean Wave content, including Korean music, drama, and films that can be
enjoyed in various media continues to increase during the pandemic. This trend
then led to increased interest in Korean tourism. It is recorded that more than
34,000 Indonesian tourists have visited in the three months since the doors of
Korean tourism opened in June this year. Meanwhile, Bali is also known as a
world-class honeymoon destination and is popular among Koreans. The island,
which boasts natural beauty and rich culture, has attracted about 20,000 Korean
tourists during the second half of 2022.
Various
kinds of improvements still have to be made even though both countries already
have a positive image and high tourism attractiveness. First, Korean tourists
feel the need to increase the security, comfort, and practicality of tourism in
Bali. Second, Indonesian tourists are quite difficult in preparing documents to
travel to Korea. Therefore, the meeting between MCST and ASTINDO in Bali is
expected to be an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two
countries in the future in order to provide better services in the tourism
sector.
