Telephone talks between president Moon Jae-In (South Korea) and president Joko Widodo (Indonesia) regarding the COVID-19 issue that occurred between the two countries
At the request of President Joko Widodo, the
Republic of Indonesia, President Moon Jae-in and President Joko Widodo held
talks over the telephone line on April 21, 2020. The talks lasted for 20
minutes from 3:25 pm.
Starting the conversation, President Joko Widodo
expressed his congratulations and joy over the victory of the ruling party in
the elections in the Republic of Korea. President Joko Widodo also considered
the victory as a form of trust of the people of the Republic of Korea in the
leadership of President Moon.
Responding to the remarks, President Moon said
"I am grateful for the congratulations. This greeting is encouraging and
feels warm because it is delivered from a true friend. We are grateful that the
election has been held safe thanks to the improved situation related to
Covid-19 as the number of cases of Covid-19 infection has recently dropped
dramatically in the country. "
President Joko Widodo expressed his deep respect to
the Republic of Korea for successfully handling the prevention of the spread of
Covid-19 domestically. He also expressed his desire to find out more about the
experience of the Republic of Korea.
President Moon said that "I hear that Indonesia
is experiencing a surge in cases of infection with the Covid-19 epidemic and
death so that the Indonesian Government is exerting all its efforts to overcome
it, one of which is by setting the status of the country's disaster. I am sure
Indonesia will soon overcome the Covid-19 outbreak with good cooperation
between the Government and its people under the leadership of President Jokowi.
"
In addition, President Moon underlined that the most
important thing in overcoming the Covid-19 outbreak was close cooperation and
solidarity at the level of world community. The plan, President Moon will
strengthen international cooperation through various steps such as providing
outbreak control products and medical devices, sharing experiences on epidemic
control and clinical data, ensuring the mobility of core workers such as
entrepreneurs, and working together to develop vaccines and medicines that cure
Covid -19.
President Joko Widodo expressed his appreciation for
the contribution made by the Republic of Korea to jointly overcome the Covid-19
crisis with the international world through the provision of products to deal
with the disease outbreak. President Joko Widodo also expressed his
determination and invited the Republic of Korea to jointly take part in
strengthening international cooperation. In addition, he expressed his hope
that Indonesia and the Republic of Korea could implement their commitments,
both for cooperation in dealing with the current corona crisis, and for
economic cooperation that had been undertaken by the two countries to face the
post-corona crisis.
Responding to the submission, President Moon said
"I agree with President Joko Widodo. I hope that South Korea and Indonesia
can overcome the Covid-19 crisis. Moreover, I hope that the Indonesia-Korea
Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IK-CEPA) can be ratified
immediately so that it can contribute to the economic recovery of the two
countries. I hope that cooperation in the defense industry and the transfer of
the National Capital can also be accelerated for further discussion. "
Before ending the telephone conversation this time,
President Moon quoted an Indonesian proverb that reads "Light with the
same hand, weight with the same shoulders" and expressed his hope to
continue intensive communication and strengthen cooperation in the midst of this
difficult time due to Covid-19. In line with this, President Joko Widodo also
said that he would continue to improve communication and cooperation in the
future.
