Initially,
Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds was a manhwa written by Joo Ho-min, then
adapted to the big screen on December 20, 2017 in South Korea. This film tells
about the understanding of the afterlife or afterlife by Buddhism who believe
in karma, retribution, and reincarnation. Everyone who dies will be tried in
seven hells within 49 days. If you get through it all, the spirit can return to
the world of the living or reincarnated.
The
Story Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds begins with firefighter Ja Hong (Cha
Tae-hyun) who died from falling from a tall building after rescuing one of the
fire victims. Ja Hong did not realize he had died until he met with three
guardian angels Gang-Rim (Ha Jung-woo), Haewonmak (Ju Ji-hoon) and Deok-Choon
(Kim Hyang-gi). They are Ja Hong's bodyguards to the gate of afterlife or
afterlife. Ja Hong became a noble spirit because during his lifetime, even when
he was about to die, he still helped people.
When
entering afterlife, Ja Hong must pass 7 courts in 7 hell in 49 days to be
reincarnated. The seven gods from each hell will prosecute Ja Hong according to
what he did during his life. The seven courts that must be passed by Ja Hong
are the courts of murder, laziness, dishonesty, injustice, betrayal, violence
and apostasy.
Ja Hong
really wanted to be reincarnated so he could meet again with his mute mother.
But Ja Hong's trial process was hampered because her younger brother, Su Hong
(Kim Dong Wook) died unnaturally and became a curious spirit. Can Ja Hong be
reincarnated?
Along
With the Gods: The Two Worlds not only provide a picture of what we will go
through after we leave the world. But a touch of plot about the family in this
film will also succeed in making you cry while watching it. For approximately
140 minutes of the film, you will see pieces of the past life of Jahong
together with his sister and mother, the secrets he hid from his mother, and
also something that his mother hid during this time. Apart from giving us
warnings to continue to do good as long as we stand in the world, Along With
the Gods: The Two Worlds also gives us a little flickering, how important
communication and openness in a family, become one thing that often escapes our
attention.
Admittedly,
the story offered in this film is very interesting. Ja Hong's figure invites us
to look a little past, what we have been through all this time, what we have
done, not only for families, but also those closest to us and ourselves. We
seem to be brought to life after death and take responsibility for all our
actions in life. Every trial that Ja Hong goes through makes us remember our
sins for life. This film will also make us remember, will regret that can not
be fixed once the time we have in this world is up.
With a
fairly long duration (140 minutes), and a fairly complex storyline, however,
some entertaining scenes and action scenes will not bore us while watching
them. Although, there are some scenes that use CGI, the animation looks
"cheap" and not as good as films that use other CGI animations.
Maybe, they really focus on the audience to remember about the importance of
living life properly.
Along
With the Gods: The Two Worlds is perfect for watching by those of you who are
having problems with the people closest to you, or who want to find a purpose
to do good during life. Intrigued by the film? Just watch it!
