Religious tourism to Itaewon Grand Mosque



Itaewon Grand Mosque or also called the Seoul Central Mosque is the largest mosque in South Korea. In addition to being a place of worship, the mosque is also a tourist destination visited by Muslims when visiting South Korea. The mosque in the Itaewon area was built in 1974 and put into use in 1976. The Itaewon Grand Mosque is also the center of Islamic symbols in South Korea and a pioneer of other mosques. This mosque is proof of the existence of Muslims in South Korea.



As a Muslim tourist, when visiting non-Muslim majority countries, of course the need for places of worship and halal food is the first thing sought. Well, in South Korea there is one region that provides these two things. The area is Itaewon, Seoul. In Itaewon, stands the Seoul Central Mosque, named Itaewon Mosque. The mosque is also a proof of Muslim pride in South Korea.


To reach this mosque, you only need to take the subway line 6 to Itaewon Station exit 3. Exit 3 means that you have to exit through the door 3. Don't make a mistake! Arena South Korea distinguishes exits according to the direction of destination. After that, you can continue by walking for about 5-10 minutes with a distance of about 250 meters. You can rely on the ability of Google maps both offline and online. After walking for about 100 meters, you turn right onto Usadan-ro Street and continue until Usadan-ro Street is 10-gil. Then turn left and go straight again. The trip to the mosque is quite uphill so it's not bad for you who have never walked far. Turn left again then you have found the Itaewon Mosque on the left with the building which is dominated by white, gray and green.



This mosque consists of three floors. The first floor functions as a meeting room and the Office of the South Korean Muslim Federation. During the month of Ramadan, this floor is filled with mosque worshipers who break the fast together in this mosque, especially female worshipers who are indoors. Meanwhile, the prayer room for men is located on the 2nd floor, while the prayer room for women is on the 3rd floor. There are prayer mukens and prayer mats for women. But generally there Muslim women who come there choose to pray without the use of mukena.



The main building of the mosque is dominated by white color. The color is enhanced by the two towers in front. Lafaz "Allahu Akbar" also adorns the main entrance of this mosque. Two sentences of creed by using the Hangeul letters at the main gate to the mosque.
