The video series "Feel the Rhythm
of Korea" which airs on YouTube has been watched more than 200 million
times and was liked by more than 500 thousand people in December 2020. The video
features a modern version of the traditional Korean song, pansori, with dancers
dressed in eclectic clothing to match their unique dance style. The video
series consists of six videos, featuring the main attractions in the cities of
Seoul, Busan, Jeonju, Gangneung, Andong, and Mokpo.
Feel the Rhythm of Korea: Seoul
The first scene is Cheong Wa Dae, which
is the official residence of the President of the Republic of Korea. Apart from
the Blue House as the main building, there is also a fountain plaza in
Mugunghwa Dongsan. To see these and other places in person, tourists can
register for a tour through the official Cheong Wa Dae website
(tour.president.go.kr). The tour starts from the parking lot of Gyeongbokgung
Palace, then to places such as Nokjiwon Park, the old building's courtyard, the
main building, the state guest room, Chilgung palace, Mugunghwa Dongsan and the
Cheongwadae Sarangchae historical museum.
The next scene is Deoksugung palace.
Deoksugung Palace, one of five palaces in Seoul, is famous for its unique blend
of modern and traditional architecture, such as Junghwajeon and Seokjojeon
Halls, as well as the Jeonggwanheon Pavilion. To bring history to life, the
ceremony to change the royal guard takes place three times a day, except
Monday. Tourists can try on traditional Korean clothes and take pictures with
the Palace guards. Information about the Deoksugung palace can be accessed at
www.royalguard.kr.
Then there is a long staircase leading
to the Jahamun tunnel. This location is known for being the shooting location
for the Academy Award winning film, Parasite (2019). Although this Jahamun
tunnel is not a typical tourist attraction, many tourists have started flocking
here to take pictures.
Feel the Rhythm of Korea: Busan
The first place in Busan is Gamcheon
culture village. The village is built on a hill overlooking the sea. The
buildings and walls here are painted with various colors and murals so that
they look unique and beautiful. Photo spots can be found in various corners of
the village, including an observation deck. This place is famous for its
beautiful night views.
The next tourist destination is the most
beautiful temple in Korea, Haedong Yonggungsa. Unlike the typical temples in
the mountains, this temple is right on the beach, with amazing sea views. This
shrine is also popular as a place to watch the sunrise. For Koreans, this
temple is one of the three holiest shrines for Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva
of Mercy. They believe that if you make a wish here, it will come true.
Finally there is Gwangalli beach, one of
the most popular beaches in Busan. The coastal road is also famous for its rows
of seafood restaurants and cafes that offer views of the Gwangandaegyo Bridge
lit up in a colorful rainbow at night. Tourists can take a walk along the
coastal path to relax while enjoying the sound of the waves.
Feel the Rhythm of Korea: Jeonju
Jeonju Hanok Village is one of the
must-visit tourist destinations in Korea. The village consists of 735
traditional house buildings, which include guest houses and accommodation, as
well as a restaurant, Hanbok rental shop and a traditional cultural hall. Apart
from attractions such as Gyeonggijeon Temple and Jeondong Catholic Cathedral,
the village is also famous for its wide variety of snacks.
Next is a cultural tourism destination,
namely the Jeonju pansori cultural center, which is located in Jeonju Hanok
Village. The center focuses on traditional pansori arts, including exhibitions
and performances. Tourists can watch all kinds of traditional performing arts
here, from performances of traditional Korean musical instruments to
traditional dances. Tourists can also try traditional instruments such as buk
(barrel shaped drum), janggu (hourglass drum), jing (large gong), and
kkwaenggwari (small gong).
The last place is the Awon museum and
hotel which is located in the village of Wanju, the neighboring city of Jeonju.
The Awon Museum and hotel have succeeded in preserving the beauty of their
traditional houses, while presenting the beauty of modern architecture through
the café galleries. Although it is almost an hour's drive from Jeonju, this
place is increasingly being visited by tourists because it was visited by the
famous South Korean boy band, BTS.
