Celebrating Seollal Day with Korean Cultural Center Indonesia with a "K-Traditional" experience

On Monday 31 January 2022, Korean Cultural Center Indonesia held an event to commemorate Seollal with the theme "K-Traditional Experience" at lotte shopping avenue Jakarta, before the event started Korean Cultural Center Indonesia explained what "Seollal" is, Korean New Year (Korea: Seollal (설날) or Gujeong (舊正) is the biggest and most important Korean holiday. Seollal is celebrated so festively that the holiday lasts for 3 days because it is considered more important than New Year's Day in the Gregorian calendar. Although not very popular, the term Seollal is also means Yang-nyeok Seollal (양력설날, Gregorian calendar new year) or Shinjeong (신정).
The last day of the 12th month of the Korean calendar is called seotdal geumeum and the night before the new year is called jeya or jeseok. Since it was the last day, as much as possible people would pay off all debts and payments and stop collecting debts until the 15th. On jeseok, households were busy preparing for the new year until midnight and gave each other year-end gifts of delicious food and drink- nice to relatives. This tradition is called sechan or food gifts.
This event was also attended by the director of the Indonesian Korean Cultural Center, the director of KCCI hopes that today's event can add knowledge about South Korean Traditional culture to the Indonesian people and of course this culture is very interesting and unique for us to follow and know together.
This event was not attended by many people, and the Korean Cultural Center Indonesia limited this event because considering the Covid-19 pandemic had not ended, and of course this event still followed strict health protocols.
In this event, we are also given the experience to play traditional Korean games such as YutNori, Ttakji chigi, jegichagi, tuho. Not only that, in this event we are also taught how to "Sebae", Sebae is how to pay respect to parents, grandparents on New Year's Day.
Children say New Year's greetings while bowing "saehae bok manhi badeuseyo" (새해 ) which means good luck for the new year. Then we are also given the opportunity to use the Hanbook, which is traditional Korean clothing!, and lastly we are also given the opportunity to learn how to properly cut the traditional Korean food, namely "Tteok". The event went very well and was full of fun!
